Charity Events

JordanCon is proud to support the Amyloidosis research fund at the Mayo Clinic. Since 2009, our charity events have raised nearly $9,000 for this cause.

Why Amyloidosis?

In 2006, James Rigney, best known to his fans around the world as “Robert Jordan,” was diagnosed with cardiac amyloidosis. This is a rare blood disease where abnormal proteins form in the bone marrow and become deposited in the patient’s heart. After a long and difficult struggle, Rigney passed away in 2007, leaving behind his family, friends and an unfinished literary legacy. During his illness, Rigney received treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and encouraged his fans to donate in support of the clinic. We are proud to continue to honor that request each year at JordanCon.

How Can I Support Amyloidosis Research at JordanCon?

Our two main charity events each year are the Seanchan Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament and the silent Charity Auction. The poker game takes place on Friday evening, while the auction takes place on Saturday. A variety of Wheel of Time items, Robert Jordan memorabilia, handicrafts, art, signed books, and other fantasy or sci-fi collectibles are auctioned off, with all proceeds going to charity. We are always willing to take donations for the auction. Please contact our Charity Events coordinator for information on how you can donate or help.

In addition to our two main charity fundraisers, we often have smaller charity fundraising events at the convention related to the current year’s theme. These are usually fun games or diversions that support our charitable giving goals. Keep an eye on this website and on the JordanCon Facebook group for announcements of these activities in the weeks leading up to the convention.

As of 8 December 2016, we are seeking suggestions of what events you would like to see from our Charity Events department. Please submit your ideas for new, returning, or improved events to us no later than 31 December 2016 for JordanCon 9 (2017). At this moment, the only three events from past years expected to return in 2017 are: our Annual Charity Silent Auction, annual Seanchan Hold’em Tournament, & a Raffle. Your suggestions will keep the weekend full of fun activities! Any ideas submitted after this 31 December 2016 will be reviewed for inclusion in our 2018 Convention.

Contributions or gifts to JordanCon Inc. are not tax deductible as charitable contributions for Federal income tax purposes. However, they may be tax deductible under other provisions of the Internal Revenue Code.
